Genogram – Learning from the Past

In Sunday’s message we learned that the past influences the present, but it doesn’t have to define the future. One of the resources Gavin mentioned was the genogram. A genogram is a powerful tool that is similar to journaling, in that we invite the Holy Spirit to lead us in the exercise as we write out discoveries that are made. There is an incredible site called Practicing the Way that has a free Genogram Workbook available as well as two short videos to explain how to fill it out. You can find that page here: https://practicingtheway.org/dealing-with-your-past/genogram-workbook

The workbook also includes helpful questions and exercises to guide you through the process of prayerfully completing this trip into your past including family history in order to spot the patterns.

Remember, you were born into an imperfect family, but you are born again into Christ’s family. The process of transformation often includes looking at past hurts so we can find healing in Jesus Christ. We pray this exercise aids you on your faith journey and brings freedom to stop sin’s spread.

*Be sure to check out other resources on the Practicing the Way site, it’s a great resource full of ideas on how to be an apprentice in the way of Jesus.
