I AM Devotional Day 15
God, may I encounter you in reading the Bible today, amen.
9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
As Jesus continues to teach the disciples on the night he is going to be betrayed, one of the focuses is on remaining in God. Jesus calls his disciples to remain in God’s love and the way to do that is to keep the commands of Jesus. Our example in doing what Jesus has called us to do is Jesus himself in that he kept the commands of God, the Father.
Following in the way of Jesus, doing what he has called us to do is about our joy. We find our joy complete while we are walking in obedience to the way of Jesus. Since Jesus is fully human and fully divine, Jesus knows what will lead to us being filled with joy. You can have the joy of God and it is what happens when we begin to follow after Jesus.
Questions to Think Through
-What would it look like for you to be rooted in the joy of Jesus today?
-How is the joy Jesus provides different from happiness?
-What part of Jesus’ teaching in John 15 resonated with you?
God, allow me to experience your joy despite the circumstances all around me today, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
