John 17 – One
God, soften my heart to hear from you today, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Have you ever wondered what Jesus would ask for if he prayed for you? We see that answer, at least in part, in John 17. Jesus prays for everyone who will believe in the message of the disciples and if you have said yes to following Jesus, then that includes you! In that prayer, Jesus asks that we would be one. The prayer of Jesus is that we would be one unified body just as Jesus and the Father are one. If Jesus prayed for it, then being one, being a unifying member of the body of Christ is of utmost importance. How are you being one with the body of Christ?
