Suit Up Devotional - Week 5

Shield

Family Memory Verse for the Week
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. -Eph. 6:10-13

Devotional
There are flaming darts arching their way towards you. These flaming arrows are destined to hit you. The shield of faith that Paul calls us to take up in Ephesians 6:16 does not stop the arrows from coming or even from hitting their target, which is us. What the shield does is extinguish the flame of the arrow. The enemy wants not only to wound you with an arrow, but also to cause a wildfire in your life. However, there is hope. The shield does not stop the arrow, but it does make the arrow lose its power. What the enemy means for chaos gets extinguished by the shield of faith. Through Jesus, the arrows lose their power. We see that even as Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:54-56 that even death loses its sting through Jesus. The flaming arrows are coming and are going to hit their target. You will feel the impact, but will you feel the sting? What kind of shield are you holding up?

Family Activity
As a family, design your own shield, with paper plates or cardboard. Discuss about how a shield can protect you. You can use marshmallows or cotton balls to “attack” each other and use the shield to block.
